Itinerary: Inca Trail Machupicchu 5 Days

Day 1Driving to km 82 and easy hike to Wayllabamba campsite

Our team will pick you up from where you are hosted either in Cusco, Urubamba or Ollantaytambo. The time for us to pick you up in Cusco will be at 5:00 am from Urubamba at 6:00 am, and if you are in Ollantaytambo at 7:00 am, The schedule will be confirmed in your briefing as it may fluctuate according to the place where you are staying.

Then we will head to the Km82. making a pre-stop in Ollantaytambo for any last-minute shopping or to have breakfast, arriving at approximately 8:30 am. We will pass by the first checkpoint of the Inca Trail to start our hike. The first 2 hours are easy until our first lunch spot at Miskay community.

After lunch, we will hike for 30 minutes a hill until reach the first Inca site Patallacta, which is an old checkpoint of the Incas. From Patallacta we have a 2-hour hike to our campsite at Hatun Chaka community. In this last stretch, we will pass through 2 small communities, if you want to buy energy drinks or snacks, you may do so here; you can also buy any essential items such as batteries that you may have forgotten.

Day 2Crossing just the Dead Woman pass

Our team will wake you up early in the morning with a hot coca tea to start the day. Today is the longest day and we will start early. We will walk approximately 4 hours up to Llullucha spot for our lunch.

After lunch, we will start to climb again until the highest point of Warmi Wañuska Pass at 4215 meters above sea level for another two hours more. When reaching the pass, we will stop to take a short break and enjoy the views before starting again to descend to the Pacaymayu valley (Hidden River) for two hours. There are our dinner and our second basecamp.

Day 3Crossing the second pass Runkuracay & Cloud Forest campsite

We begin early again, waking up at 6:30.m. to begin what is commonly considered to be the most beautiful day of the whole Inca Trail. After breakfast, we will walk for 2 hours to the second pass and on the way, we will stop at a small Inca site (Runcu Raccay) to watch the waterfalls located on the opposite side of the valley.

After the pass, there’s another down hike by the slope to reach the magnificent Inca site, we will stop to rest and get a quick tour of the site. Then we will continue for another 20 more minutes approximately until the lunch spot Chaquicocha (a dried lake, 3600 meters above sea level).

After lunch, we will hike along what we like to call “Plano Inca” (graded slopes) and we begin to enter the forest, known as the Bosque Nuboso (Cloudy Forest). As we walk, we will have the opportunity to see the majesty of the snow-covered Salkantay, the second-highest mountain of Cusco, and a fantastic panoramic view of the Vilcabamba mountain range. We arrived at Phuyupatamarca there is our dinner and basecamp. After dinner, if you’re not too tired, we will watch and appreciate the fascinating Inca constellations. In the magnificent sky of the Southern Hemisphere, far from any artificial lightings.

Day 4Sun Gate & first views of Machu picchu mountain

Today we will wake you up early to see the sunset over the mountains, then have our delicious breakfast. From Phuyupatamarka, we are 3 hours walking down a path of stairs towards at Wiñay Wayna.
During the descent, we will visit 2 Inca sites, Phuyupatamarka (Town in the Clouds) and Intipata (Terraces of the Sun). We will arrive at Wiñay Wayna at around noon for lunch, and then we will relax a little and visit the Inca site of Wiñay Wayna.

After lunch, we will say goodbye to our team of porters and cooks and then hike to the Puerta del Sol (Inti Punku (Sun Gate). From here we have spectacular views of the mountains and Machu Picchu in all its glory. And then it is only an hour’s walk down to Machu Picchu to enjoy the views with few tourists. As we get closer to Machu Picchu, the views of the city will become more impressive.

From Machu Picchu, we are continuing by bus to Aguas Calientes village to have our dinner at a local restaurant and pass the night in our hotel.

Day 5Exploration of Machu Picchu & back to Cusco

After breakfast, we will take the bus down to Machu Picchu and visit the archaeological complex of Machu Picchu, our guided tour will last 2 hours and a half through all the most important points of the citadel, such as main squares, fountains, ceremonial places, religious temples, agricultural and urban areas.

Later you will have free time to explore the rest of Machu Picchu on your own and, if you booked the Huaynapicchu or Machu Picchu mountain you may start climbing. Finally, at the recommended time you will need to return to Aguas Calientes for lunch and then board the train heading to Ollantaytambo or Poroy station, from there you will be transferred to your hotel in Cusco.

  • Trekking Equipment.During the trek we will transport 8 kg of your belongings for that will provide you a duffle bag, also a rain poncho, plus a backpack cover.
  • Campin EquipmentWe use the best possible equipment for mountain activities for your comfort and safety. Tents for up to 4 people, we use only for 2 people, as well as spacious dining tents.
  • Tour support team.We include staff that will make your trip unforgettable, such as the guide, cook, cook's assistant, porters and muleteers.

What is not included?

  • Single Roomif you require a single room has an extra cost.
  • Gratuities for the team.Tipping is a common tradition on any kind of tour, normally the group participants collect their tips to hand out to the muleteers, chefs and guides. Although we pay a good salary to all our team, always an extra is welcome for them.
  • Meals not mentioned.The dinner of the last day.
  • Trekking poles.

    Walking sticks with rubber tips are highly recommended to make easy your hilke. If you dont have, dont worry, we can rent them US$ 15.

  • Sleeping Bagfor this tour it is necessary to bring your -15°C sleeping bag, if you don't have them we can rent them for you US$ 20.
  • Travel insurance: It is not mandatory, but it is recommended that you purchase one to protect yourself financially from any lost excursions.

The Machu Picchu Inca Trail Trek 5days can leave on any day of the week, from March to January. we dont leave on february because rain a lot.

Group Service Price: $ 890.00  US$ 770 per person.

Required Deposit:  To book, you need to make a pre payment of US$ 200.00 per person by PayPal.

Balance: it is US$ 570.00, the remaining balance can be paid online by Paypal in advance, or in Cusco at briefing with cash (recommend) .

Hotel

On this tour the last night will be spent in the town of Aguas Calientes before visiting Machu Picchu. For which we include a three star hotel with double, triple or triple rooms.
If you want to upgrade the quality of the hotel or prefer a single room, there will be an additional cost.

These Mountains can be visited after finishing the guided tour of the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.

  • Huayna Picchu Mountain: US $ 50 this is the famous mountain behind the archaeological site of Machu Picchu. it takes 50 minutes up, and another 40 to back, you can climb this mountain once finished the guided tour of Machu Picchu. The entry to this mountain has an extra cost, and need to be book in advance.
  • Machu Picchu Mountain: US $ 50This is the other mountain who surrounds the archaeological site of Machu Picchu, it is less popular than Huayna Picchu and takes 1.5 hour up.  Also requires an extra entry that cost .
