This was one of the first alternative routes to Machu Picchu after the Inca Trail, it offers you the most scenic attractions on the Salkantay route to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, during the journey we will visit the Humantay Lagoon and see the snowy mountains of Humantay, Salkantay, amongst others.

We pick you up from your hotel at 4:00 am to travel to Mollepata where we will have the option to eat breakfast at a local restaurant (not included), here we can buy your entrance ticket to the Salkantay trail (Included) and then continue our journey towards Soraypampa to start our hike by Salkantay Trek.
From here, we will hike uphill for about 1 hour to the Humantay Lagoon at 4230m / 13,878ft. Once here our guide will explain the reason for the turquoise colors of the water and you will have some free time to explore and take pictures.
Then, we return to Soraypampa at 3930m / 12,849ft for lunch. After that, we continue for two hours to Salkantaypampa where our basecamp is located.
Here, we will have our tea time while enjoying an amazing view of the peaks, followed by dinner before going to sleep in our tents.
Today is the most difficult journey of the entire Salkantay Trek route, 14 km. Our staff will wake you up with a cup of coca tea in your tents, then we’ll have breakfast at 5am. We should begin hiking up to the Salkantay pass at 4630 m above sea level. This first trekking will take us 3 hours to arrive to the pass.
Once at the highest point, our guide will explain the importance of the mountains for the Andean communities, and after that, we’ll have some free time to celebrate our conquest with a small Andean ritual based on coca leaves. Then we will start our way down for about 2 hours to WayraqPunku for lunch.
After lunch we continue our trek downhill for about 3 more hours to the village of Chaullay at 2900 m, here we take a local car to Llucmabamba, our basecamp, at 2000m, there we’ll have tea time and dinner. In this place you can take a hot bath for 10 soles.
Today we wake up at 5:00 am again with a cup of hot tea, followed by our delicious breakfast. Around 6:00am, we start our Salkantay Trek hiking to visit the local coffee plantation, where the farmers are going to tell us about the varieties of coffee that grown in this town.
Following with our hiking uphill for 3 more hours until we arrive to Llactapata. Here we´ll have the first marvelous views of Machu Picchu at the distance and our guide will explain the importance of the archaeological center of Llactapata.
After this, we will descend for about 2 hours to the village located next to the hydroelectric Power plant to have lunch. Finally, our hike continues for about 3 more hours along the train tracks towards the town of Aguas Calientes, where we will stay in a hotel in shared rooms. Later, we’ll have dinner at a local restaurant.
Note: today if you prefer, we can continue from Hidroelectrica to Aguas Calientes by train for USD $ 30.
The big day has arrived, today you will visit the archaeological park of Machu Picchu built by the Incas!
We recommend to wake up at 4:00 am so you can have breakfast at your hotel and then go by bus (included) for about 30 minutes to the park of Machu Picchu.
We will enter Machu Picchu to start the guided tour for about two hours in Machu Picchu, our guide will explain you our history lessons to know the functions of each place visited in the archaeological park, we will visit the most important places of Machu Picchu always following the new regulations of the Government.
After the guided tour, if you book an extra ticket for the Huayna Picchu mountain, you will start your additional hike. At the recommended time you will return to the town of Aguas Calientes by bus (included) to have lunch at a local restaurant (not included).
Then you will have some free time to explore the town of Aguas Calientes before departing by train to the town of Ollantaytambo. The train leaves at 15:20, this trip lasts .40 hrs going along the Vilcanota river valley to Ollantaytambo. End of the Salkantay Trek.

Huayna Picchu mountain: This is the famous mountain behind the archaeological site of Machu Picchu. it takes 50 minutes up, and another 40 to back, you can climb this mountain once finished the guided tour of Machu Picchu. The entry to this mountain has an extra cost, and need to be book in advance.
Machu Picchu Mountain: This is the other mountain who surrounds the archaeological site of Machu Picchu, it is less popular than Huayna Picchu and takes 1.5 hour up. Also requires an extra entry that cost .
